Permanently anchored at Lucerne’s waterfront, the Wilhelm Tell has been turned into a restaurant where you can step on board and enjoy a meal surrounded by the atmosphere of a historic steamship. Choose a table on the deck in summer, look out across Lake Lucerne and the mountains, or head inside for a more traditional setting. It is an easy place to walk past without realizing that you can actually go aboard and stay for dinner.

This is the Nadelwehr, a historic needle dam that has been regulating the flow of water since the 19th century. From the nearby Reusssteg, you can get a close look at the rushing water and the wooden needles themselves. It is easy to walk past without giving them much thought, but once you know what they do, this small piece of Lucerne’s engineering history becomes much more interesting.

Lake Lucerne is one of Switzerland’s most accessible lake and Alpine destinations by train. Direct connections from Zurich, Bern and other major Swiss cities make arriving in the region fast and convenient.

Lucerne railway station is located directly in the city centre beside Lake Lucerne, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the destination. From Lucerne, visitors can conveniently continue by train, bus or boat towards the surrounding lakeside towns, mountains and attractions.

Lake Lucerne is easily reached by car from Zurich, Bern and other Swiss cities via Switzerland’s well-connected motorway network.

Lucerne is conveniently connected to the A2 motorway, making it an excellent base for exploring Central Switzerland, Lake Lucerne and destinations such as Mount Pilatus, Mount Rigi, Bürgenstock and the surrounding lakeside towns.
