Getting There

The Matterhorn is easily accessible by public transport from Zermatt and other parts of Switzerland.

Visitors can travel by train to Zermatt and continue by mountain railway or cable car to destinations such as Gornergrat, Sunnegga and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.

Public transport provides convenient access to the Matterhorn region, making it easy to explore the surrounding mountains without a car.

TRAIN

The Matterhorn region can be reached by car from Zurich, Geneva, Bern and other parts of Switzerland. As Zermatt is car-free, visitors travelling by car must leave their vehicles in Täsch and continue to Zermatt by train or taxi.

Visitors can drive to Täsch, where parking facilities are available near the railway station. From there, the shuttle train to Zermatt provides a convenient connection to the mountain village and its mountain railways.

During busy periods, especially in winter, summer and on weekends, arriving early is recommended as parking facilities in Täsch can become busy and road traffic around the Zermatt region can increase.

CAR

The Matterhorn region is easily accessible by public transport from Zermatt and other parts of Switzerland.

Visitors can travel by train to Zermatt and continue by mountain railway or cable car to destinations such as Gornergrat, Sunnegga and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Zermatt itself is car-free, making public transport the most convenient way to reach the mountain village.

Public transport is an ideal option for visiting the Matterhorn without a car, with frequent connections and easy access to the surrounding mountain attractions throughout the year.

BUS

The Matterhorn has no direct boat access, but the mountain can be combined with a scenic Lake Geneva boat cruise as part of a wider journey through the Swiss Alps.

Visitors can travel by boat on Lake Geneva to destinations such as Montreux and continue by train towards Zermatt. From Zermatt, mountain railways and cable cars provide access to the Matterhorn region.

This combination makes it possible to enjoy a scenic Lake Geneva boat cruise together with a spectacular train journey through the Swiss Alps and unforgettable views of the Matterhorn.

BOAT

The Matterhorn region offers easy access to spectacular mountain viewpoints with cogwheel railways, funiculars and cable cars.

Visitors can travel from Zermatt to Gornergrat by cogwheel railway, to Sunnegga by funicular or to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise by cable car. Each route provides spectacular views of the Matterhorn and surrounding Alpine landscape.

The extensive mountain transport network makes it easy to combine hiking, sightseeing and panoramic Alpine experiences without a long ascent on foot.

CABLE CAR

The Matterhorn region offers parking facilities in Täsch, the main arrival point for visitors travelling to Zermatt by car. From Täsch, visitors can continue to Zermatt by shuttle train or taxi.

During busy periods, especially in winter, summer and on weekends, parking facilities in Täsch can fill up quickly. Arriving early is recommended.

Check the available parking options in Täsch before arrival and allow enough time to park and continue your journey to Zermatt during peak periods.
